 From the “I can’t have an honest discussion with my family, so I prefer to spy on them” department comes an iPhone and iPad app that promises to keep track of them wherever they go. Family Tracker for the iPhone takes advantage of iOS4′s multitasking to run quietly in the background on an iPhone. As long as the app is running, it’s checking the phone’s location via GPS and uploading it to Family Tracker’s servers, where the owner of the account can log in via the Web or from their own iPhone to find out where the phone is located.
The developers sell the app as a way to make sure your spouse isn’t cheating on you or that your kids are where they claim to be, which makes sense if your need to know where they are at any time is greater than your trust in your spouses or your children. The app even allows you to “ping” another user’s phone using push notifications that, when acknowledged, will record the user’s GPS location and upload it to the service. |
